To: SACR tower correspondents (and members on the e-mail list),
1. 25th April - St Cuthbert's, Edinburgh
Please note that the next Advanced practice will be at Edinburgh St
Cuthbert's on
Friday 25th April 2008 from 19.00 to 21.00. Please could you inform any
members in your towers who might be interested to attend.
The special method will be Rutland Surprise Royal, including Rutland spliced
with Cambridge and Yorkshire Royal. As usual we will also ring these as
single methods, some caters and London Royal if we have a suitable band.
2. Sat 31st May - Carlisle Cathedral, 15.30 to 17.00
Following an earlier suggestion, I have arranged a special SACR 12-bell
practice at Carlisle Cathedral on Saturday 31st May from 15.30 to 17.00. The
ringers and Cathedral authorities have very kindly allowed us to ring as a
practice for longer than the bells are usually available, realising our
unique difficulty in Scotland to secure 12 bell ringing.
Please could those ringers interested to attend this practice let me know
their availability ASAP. It would be as useful to know if you cannot attend
as if you can, because it may be necessary to cancel the practice if there
is not enough support. For the same reason, please do not just "turn up" on
the day because I can only guarantee to keep you informed about the
arrangements if I know that you are intending to be there. I would hope to
have clear decision either way by the AGM on 10th May or soon after, leaving
time to book reasonably priced tickets for anyone travelling by train.
Finally, 2 factors that may influence your decision:
Firstly it is planned that we will soon have our first 12 bell tower in
Scotland. It would be nice to make sure before then that we, as an
association, are familiar with how to ring on 12.
Secondly, although Carlisle may seem a long way to travel for a one and a
half hour practice, links by rail from Edinburgh and Glasgow are remarkably
swift as is the car journey. Carlisle is not a bad destination to choose for
a day out. If, like me, you are in the habit of viewing Carlisle as just
somewhere near the M6 on a journey further South, then here is a chance to
look a bit closer...
Thanks, and hoping these practices go well,
Chris Frye.
